Could it be? Did we actually just have a full week of school?? It's been so long!! At the end of Friday, all I could think was HOW MANY THINGS WE DID THIS WEEK. It was jam-packed full of activities, particularly in celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday!
In literacy, we read many of Dr. Seuss' classic books such as The Lorax, Green Eggs and Ham, Hop on Pop, and more. We focused a lot on The Cat in the Hat, practicing our ability to retell stories with beginning, middle, and end.
We also incorporated Dr. Seuss activities into math by reading One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish and playing a game where fish are added together. Children practiced seeing that two groups can come together to make a bigger number and writing number sentences.

In another math center, children practiced telling math stories. A math story is a story that involves numbers such as: "There were four red dinosaurs and two yellow dinosaurs playing together. There were six dinosaurs all together." Students used dinosaur and horse manipulatives with "math mats" to tell these stories to each other.
To top things off, we read the Dr. Seuss story, "Bartholomew and the Oobleck" about a king who makes a new type of weather come down on his land-- a gooey substance called oobleck! After reading it, we did a science experiment and made our own oobleck by combining food coloring, corn starch, and water. It was a huge mess but we had fun and learned at the same time!
